“Those who sincerely
accept the Good News gather together in Jesus' name in order
to seek together the kingdom, build it up and live it….
Those who have received the Good News and who have been
gathered by it into the community of salvation can and must
communicate and spread it.”

(Paul VI, On
Evangelization in the Modern World, 13)

Archbishop Flynn’s hope is that this initiative will spread to every part of the community. That’s why each of the 221 parishes in the 12-county metropolitan area and other organizations of the archdiocese are being directed to introduce their communities to the Awakening phase this fall and Lent of 2005. This will be followed by the Transformation and Witness phases in subsequent years through 2009.
Meantime, those parishes that blazed the trail for the archdiocesan initiative during the pilot will continue advancing the effort. In Lent 2005 and semesters that follow, those communities will be first to work through the progressive phases of reflection that focus on Transformation/Conversion and then on Witness. Their experiences will help provide support and guidance to the other parishes as they follow through the movements.
With intercession and the continued grace of the Spirit, in four years, hundreds of thousands of faithful in the archdiocese will go through these processes. And, as Pope Paul VI prays, "May we be ministers of the Gospel whose lives glow with fervor, who have first received the joy of Christ, and who are willing to risk their lives so that the kingdom may be proclaimed and the Church established in the midst of the world." (On Evangelization in the Modern World, 80)
Prayer is the key.
