About Us

The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis is a rich and storied institution. Led by Archbishop John C. Nienstedt, the Archdiocese supports and provides for a community of approximately 825,000 Catholics in and around the Twin Cities metropolitan area and suburban communities.

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a people called by God to be the Church of Jesus Christ in our place and time. Our mission as persons, as families, as parishes, and as a diocese is to respond to God’s call with personal commitment and communal action.

Called by God to Echo the invitation.

God calls us to proclaim the life-giving and hope-giving good news of the Gospel. Our mission is to proclaim the truth of Christ by what we say and by what we do.

Called by God to Announce the truth of Christ.

God calls us to serve the world, that is, all our brothers and sisters whom God loves and for whom Christ died. Our mission is to reflect upon our Judeo-Christian heritage, to discern the most pressing needs of society, and to utilize our resources in order to meet them. We are called to respect the dignity of every person and to hold all institutions, both secular and religious, accountable for justice. We are called to heal the wounds which divide people, to work for liberation from oppression, and to cooperate with all people of good will, especially other Christians and Jews.

Called by God to Tend to the needs of the world.

God calls us to live a life of community in the Holy Spirit. Our mission is to build a community based on forgiveness of one another, caring for each other, bearing one another’s burdens, personal prayer and sacramental worship. Individuals are called to a wide variety of ministries which build up the body of Christ.

Called by God to Form the body of Christ.

Although our diocesan Church is limited in time and space, through the life of the Spirit, we are united to all those who have gone before us in the faith and to all Christians throughout the world. At the Last Supper, Jesus prayed for the unity among his disciples. Each time we celebrate the Eucharist in union with our Bishops, we recall our mission to cooperate with other Catholics throughout the state, the nation and the world under the leadership of the Pope, and to strengthen the bonds of unity between us and all other Christians.

Called by God to Bind the wounds which divide.
