Villa Maria Brings Community Together to Remember Victims & Survivors of Katrina Prayer Service
Time: 3:30pm - 5:00pm
Location: Villa Maria Retreat & Conference Center
Victims of Hurricane Katrina continue their attempt to recover from the massive storm. Hundreds of thousands victims left homeless are still in need of critical necessities.

In response to many people from communities surrounding Villa Maria Retreat & Conference Center, the Villa is holding a prayer and memorial service on Sunday, October 30, 2005 from 3:30 pm 5:00 pm. During this service, Villa representatives will honor and remember in prayer those who have died in this tragedy as well as offer prayer support to the many trying to rebuild their lives. We hope to bring together returning relief workers from our area to share their stories of hope and sadness. said Sr. Rose Elsbernd, Director of the Villa. Many people have come to us, asking what they can do, and we know that prayer is one form of help.

In the meantime, the Villa is setting up a collection box for those wishing to make cash donations. Area residents are encouraged to join Villa staff and residents at Mass on Sundays at 9:00 am, or stop in anytime. All donations will be sent to the Red Cross monthly and will provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Villa Maria is located in Frontenac, Minnesota, overlooking the Mississippi River and the bluffs of Wisconsin and is open to all. Their motto, Where God is Center and the World is Welcome underscores their mission to be open and inviting, providing a place for quiet, relaxation and spiritual time. In addition to individual retreats, the Villa offers facilitated spiritual direction, a book club, Supper and Book, and A Day Away, an invitation to take a day to relax, reflect and refresh. The Villa is nonprofit and sponsored by the Ursuline sisters, and staffed by a ministry community of sisters and lay personnel. You can find out more at their website: www.villamariaretreats.org
