The Center for Diaconate fulfills the following roles and functions:
- Provides general catechesis and information on the vocation of deacon
- Conducts selection and admission process for applicants to diaconate formation
- Provides a diaconate formation program for the archdiocese
- Encourages spiritual, intellectual, personal, ministerial and communal growth among deacons
- In concert with the Comprehensive Assignments Board, serves as a resource for placement and other personnel concerns of archdiocesan deacons
The purpose of the Deacon Council shall be:
- To recommend policy to the Archbishop regarding ministry/life issues affecting the Deacon community so as to give him effective assistance in these matters.
- To implement policies and programs at the Archbishop’s discretion which will help Deacons live and work more effectively in their ministry.
- To provide a vehicle for open dialogue with other bodies organized within the Archdiocese, especially through representation on their Boards, as appropriate.
- To encourage an active and visible role by Deacons individually and the Deacon community collectively in matters that directly affect them in their call to a ministry of service.
- To foster an ongoing spirit of community by encouraging and promoting social, spiritual and education activities on behalf of the Deacon community.
- To enhance the awareness and image of diaconal ministry through appropriate public relations and promotional activities.
