Human Resources and Benefits

The Office of Human Resources/Benefits provides a variety of programs and services to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and the Chancery Corporation employees in several areas. These include:

  • Employment – We assist in the online posting of positions that are open in parishes, schools, Archdiocesan Offices, institutions within Minnesota, and institutions outside of Minnesota.
  • Benefits – We provide access to affordable medical services through the Archdiocesan Medical/Benefits Plan, including such benefits as Life, Health, Dental, Long-Term Disability, Long-Term Care and Flexible Spending Accounts. This program is available to all full-time Archdiocesan employees. We also provide Benefits to priests through a self-insured Health and Dental Program.
  • Retirement Benefits – We provide a Retirement Program for Lay Employees and offer investment education and retirement planning seminars to assist your employees with the decisions necessary to assure future financial needs. We also provide a Retirement plan for Archdiocesan priests that provides a monthly income to them in their retirement years.

Important changes affecting active employees participating in the Lay Employees Pension Plan go into effect on January 31, 2011. The way your employer helps you save for your retirement is changing from a pension plan (defined benefit plan) to a 403(b) plan (defined contribution plan).

Pension benefits will be frozen as of January 31, 2011 and will no longer grow after that date. Active Pension Plan participants will stop earning benefits under the Lay Employees Pension Plan as of January 31, 2011.

The Pension Plan freeze is intended to protect accrued benefits. This freeze will not affect benefits earned under the Pension Plan as of January 31, 2011. In other words, your pension benefit upon retirement will be based upon your credited years of service and your salary history as of January 31, 2011. You will not accrue additional credited years of service for any future years of employment beyond January 31, 2011. Similarly, any salary changes you experience after January 31, 2011 will not be taken into account in your pension retirement benefits calculation.

A mailing with more detailed information was sent out the week of November 29, 2010 to all active participants in the Pension Plan. If you did not receive this mailing, or if you need additional assistance, please call the pension hotline at 651-291-4503.
