Commission on Ecumenism and Interreligious Affairs

Archdiocesan Initiatives

The following is a listing of the initiatives in the Archdiocese. In addition to these we recommend activities for individuals and parishes, particularly to increase Christian unity:

  1. Pray for Christian Unity. This is often called spiritual ecumenism, the soul of the ecumenical movement.
  2. Pray with other Christians, both sharing in their worship and inviting them to share in yours.
  3. Promote Bible study and discussion groups with other Christians.
  4. Collaborate with other Christians in planning social outreach programs in the local community.
  5. Be interested in your neighbors, including their religious and spiritual roots.
  6. Be mindful of and sensitive to interfaith and interreligious couples and families.
  7. Learn more. There is much to read and study. We provide a wealth of information on this web-page in order to understand the Catholic position on dialogue and know what is happening locally, nationally, and internationally. You may also want to subscribe to periodicals devoted to ecumenism, such as One in Christ, Ecumenical Trends, and The Journal of Ecumenical Studies.

The center Personnel, Rabbi Barry Cytron, Dr. John Merkle, and Karen Shierman, staff and administer the various center projects on both campuses.
