YOUTH PROGRAM/ADVOCACY OFFICER – CRS MIDWEST (CHGO IL)
Job Summary:
The CRS Midwest Youth Program/Advocacy Officer is responsible for: 1) engaging
and empowering adults who work with youth, and young people themselves, in
global solidarity rooted in our Catholic social teaching, through working with
church-based partners throughout the Midwest. Responsibilities include:
supporting and serving as a resource for youth ministers and educators to engage
diverse youth in global solidarity and international peace & justice activities,
with a particularly focus on engaging African-American and Latino youth; 2)
developing relationships and building a constituency among Midwest
African-American Catholics to deepen engagement in CRS international
humanitarian, peace and justice work.

Qualifications:
§ Bachelor’s Degree; Advanced degree preferred
§ 5-10 years relevant experience (youth ministry, education, Black Catholic ministry, community organizing)
§ Experience in developing, organizing and leading workshops and retreats
§ Familiarity with the African-American Catholic community; ability to work within its culture
§ Significant experience of living and working in the Midwest
§ An understanding of and track record in working for long-term social change
§ Broad knowledge of international issues, particularly those pertaining to the developing world
§ Experience working with diverse groups of people; experience working as part of a team, and facilitating team work
§ Cross-cultural experience (work, study, travel) in developing countries a plus
§ Willingness to travel, primarily within the U.S. Midwest at least 30% of time. Occasional overseas travel. The position is located in Chicago IL
