Things to do Before you say "I do"
|
To
ensure your preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage
in the Catholic Church is as meaningful as it can be,
the Office for Family, Laity, Youth and Young Adults has
developed the following checklist. We hope it is helpful
... God's blessings on your engagement.

|
|
- Pray and enjoy quiet moments together as a couple. Take time together to reflect on the blessings of your relationship and give thanks to God.
- Make an appointment with your parish priest/deacon and set a tentative wedding date. Preview parish and diocesan policy.
- Supply your priest/deacon with a current copy of your baptismal certificate (if marrying outside of home parish).
- Meet with your priest/deacon to complete the pre-nuptial questionnaire and review parish and diocesan policies.
- Take a pre-marital inventory.
- Spend time as a couple reading and discussing Archbishop Harry J. Flynn's Pastoral Letter Marriage and the Family (available from your pastor or online via our website).
- Meet with your priest, deacon or sponsor couple. Discuss premarital inventory (approximately four meetings).
- Attend a Marriage Preparation Course/Retreat (details available from your pastor...you'll find
registration information online).
- Meet with your priest, deacon or parish staff to discuss details of the wedding celebration.
- Select Scripture readings, petitions and music.
- Participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) prior to your wedding.
