Share a Live of Love and Peace!

In a world in which we see violence, the Gospel message of Love and Peace must not be drowned out.  Pope John Paul II throughout his pontificate has recognized the importance of using modern-day communications such as the Internet, radio and television to share the Gospel message.  He's not alone -- Worldwide Communications Day is the only day specifically called for by Vatican II.  Inter Mirifica (On the Instruments of Social Communications), one of the 16 decrees of Vatican II, calls for bishops of each nation to establish resources to encourage use of modern means of technology to spread the Gospel.

The third Sunday of each May has been established as World Communications Day.  In the U.S., this is the day on which the Catholic Communications Campaign (CCC) is held.  This year, that's Sunday, May 17th.

So what does the CCC mean to YOU?

On a local level, this year's Catholic Communication Campaign is designated to fund the following projects:

  • Seasonal spiritual reflections from Archbishop Harry J. Flynn on 102.9 WLTE-FM
  • Weekly televised Mass from St. Olaf Church via Metro Cable Channel 6
  • Catholic programming via the StarBoard Network, in English on WMIN 740 AM, and in Spanish on KSMM 1530 AM
  • Internet outreach via a new on-line "Media Room" on the Archdiocese's web site.

Nationally, the CCC funds the following projects:

  • Family-friendly, toll-free Movie Review Line (1-800-311-4222)
  • Radio & TV Public Service Announcements on issues such as Alcoholism, Domestic Violence, and Family Relationships
  • Documentaries for ABC & NBC affiliates, including "The Face of Jesus in Art", and featured topics such as priesthood and religious life, terminal illness (including cancer and AIDS), and youth/young adult mission programs
  • "Facts of Faith" Internet resources
  • Media Literacy/Awareness Materials.

At a time when media coverage has highlighted human failings within the Church, it is ever more important to reach out with the Gospel message.  PLEASE HELP US!

Donations may be offered at your parish the third weekend in May, or sent directly to the Communications Office. Checks may be made payable to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, marked “CCC” and mailed to: Communications Office, 226 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55102.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
