In the third and final webinar, Dr. Stephen de Weger will shed light on clergy sexual activity in the context of chastity within celibacy.
One of the deeply troubling and personally painful issues that Dr. Stephen de Weger says he has struggled with is the revelations of the disturbing backstage beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors amongst the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy and those dealing with victim/survivors who reported their adult abuse. These disturbing elements were discovered in his review of the literature, but more so in the lives of thirty women and ten men who participated in his research through surveys and face to face interviewing of victims of clergy sexual misconduct against adults. He says that he became deeply exasperated and disillusioned when trying to understand the why of the lack of genuinely relevant responses from the official church. His conclusions will be discussed in this final webinar. He strongly hopes that his findings, perceptions and opinions will spark more open and realistic debate.
