Transfiguration was established on August 6, 1939, with Fr. Cornelius Normoyle as pastor. The first Mass was offered in Landy’s Café on Tanners Lake on August 15, 1939, and remained there for several weeks until property was purchased in Maplewood. In 1953, a new building was constructed in Maplewood that included a church, social hall, classrooms and offices. Transfiguration Catholic School opened on September 8, 1953, with 240 students and was staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The original church was converted into a convent. The parish and school moved to its current location in Oakdale in 1986. Transfiguration is an active parish that seeks to be a transfiguring light of Christ’s presence in the East Metro.
