St. Andrew Kim, named in honor of St. Andrew Kim Taegon, the first Korean priest and
martyr executed in 1846, has been the only Korean Catholic community in Minnesota for
the past 50 years. It began with 14 families celebrating Mass at The Saint Paul Seminary in
1973. Since then, it has actively fostered the faith life of Korean immigrant families in the local
community, along with students from the University of Minnesota. The church was elevated to
parish status in 1990, and until 2015, priests were dispatched from the Archdiocese of Seoul.
Starting in 2018, priests have been sent from the Diocese of Incheon.
