In the late 1960s, the township of Lebanon, now known as Apple Valley, was growing rapidly.
Risen Savior was founded on September 10, 1970, with 350 families from Apple Valley,
Burnsville and Lakeville. A house on 1001 Baldwin Drive in Apple Valley was purchased as
a rectory. This became the focal point of the new community. It served as residence, office,
and meeting place. The garage served as the chapel for Mass, confessions and baptisms. The
residential garage could not accommodate the community for long. Soon construction began
on land in Burnsville, donated by a parishioner. The new worship area and multi-purpose
spaces were finished in 1978.
By 1988, the community had grown to 1,850 households, and an expansion of the original
worship space was completed in spring 1989. Today, Risen Savior serves 2,900 households.
