St. Bridget of Sweden started on August 3, 1947, when a group of lay
Catholics from Chisago City, Lindstrom and Center City met to discuss the
formation of a new parish. St. Bridget was incorporated on Sunday, February
22, 1948, and ground was broken for the church building on Sunday, May 7,
1950. The church was built in a contemporary Swedish style, modeled after
the Convent of St. Birgitta in Sweden, and was dedicated on Sunday, October
29, 1950. Over the years, as the community and the parish continued to grow,
a new worship space was needed. The present church was built in 1984.
