St. Charles was established in 1943, but a new church could not be built immediately because of World War II. Fortunately, the People’s Congregational Church allowed the new Catholic community to use their
building for Mass. By July 1944, the War Production Board approved the building of a basement building site for St. Charles. Finally, in August 1952, George W. Olson Construction began work on the present church building. The cornerstone was laid March 10, 1954, by the first pastor, Fr. Francis Miller. Archbishop Murray officially dedicated the church on September 12, 1954.
