For people living in the valley, the closest churches were in Hastings, Lake Elmo and Stillwater. Given the distance, many Catholics in the area were unable to attend Mass regularly. Until construction of a church began in 1938, Mass was celebrated in private homes or a rented hall. The new church was built in the mission style and dedicated on August 13, 1938. As the parish continued to grow, a new church was built in 1989, while the first church continues to be used as a chapel.
