Before there were freeways or suburbs, paved roads or railroads, tractors
or trucks, there was St. Hubert. In fact, St. Hubert stood in Chanhassen
before there was a Chanhassen: the town’s first name was St. Hubertus.
Since 1865, St. Hubert has been an integral part of the growth and vitality of
Chanhassen and the area that has become the Southwest Metro.
The first St. Hubert church was a tiny log structure measuring 18 by 24 feet,
which also served as the first school. The third St. Hubert church was finished
in 1887 and is located on the same property as St. Hubert Catholic Cemetery
in the center of Chanhassen. The church is on the National Registry of
Historic Places. The present church and school were built in 1997 with the
addition in 2002.
