The first Catholic settlers in this area attended services in Wyoming, Minnesota. However, as more settlers arrived, the need for a larger church became apparent. The Catholic community decided to build a church of their own in Forest Lake. Archbishop John Ireland dedicated the newly built church on November 13, 1905. By the 1950s there was again a need for a larger church. The present church was dedicated on October 25, 1961. St. Peter School opened that same year. The school now has a preschool program, child-care, and classes for kindergarten through 8th grade. The old convent that once housed the teachers for the school now serves as an annex for faith formation, Bible studies, and programs for children, youth, young adults, and families. The perpetual Adoration chapel, which used to be located in the basement of the annex, has since been moved to the main building due to high demand. With a rich history behind it, St. Peter continues to bring the truth, beauty, and goodness of God to all those that enter through its doors.
