St. Richard was founded in 1952 as a result of explosive growth in the Richfield
area. A combined church and school were completed in 1952, and this facility
served the parish until 1985, when the present church was completed.
Over the years, with the changing demographics of the area, St. Richard has
continued to adapt. St. Richard School was initially staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph
of Crookston. In 1994, the school was consolidated with those of Assumption and
St. Peter in Richfield to form Blessed Trinity Catholic School. In 2020, the Richfield
parishes began to collaborate even more closely. While they remain three distinct
parishes, they have one pastor, one parish staff, one set of bilingual ministries,
and one mission to spread the gospel.
