Information for those applying for dual citizenship by descent
Although the general genealogical research services of the archdiocese have been discontinued, we are still assisting with requests related to applications for dual citizenship by descent. Due to the extraordinarily high volume of these requests, the time and work required to locate records and produce certified copies, and limited staff availability, the processing time for such requests may be as long as 8-12 weeks. The fee for these requests is $50 per record to help offset the staff hours required.
Many of the records being requested are readily available through civil sources. In order to continue offering this service and to make the best use of our time and resources, we require that all requesters try first to obtain a civil record of birth, marriage, or death and to have received a definitive reply from the applicable state or county office indicating that no such record can be found before requesting a corresponding sacramental record of baptism, marriage or death. Only records that are at least 100 years old and located within the 12 counties of the archdiocese (Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin, Le Sueur, Ramsey, Rice, Scott, Washington, and Wright) are available for request. Please provide as precise a date and location as possible for each record to facilitate research. Submissions with insufficient dates or locations will be denied.

You will receive a response by email once work is complete, even if the requested record(s) cannot be located. Please be patient while your request is in the queue; we have a high volume of requests, and emails checking on status only slow the process.
