From Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda
Along with many of you, I was watching the headlines with prayerful anticipation today while our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, was undergoing surgery for a nodule on his lung. While I had been praying that the diagnosis would not be cancer, I am grateful that his doctors were able to successfully remove the affected portion of his lung without any complications.
The Pope’s diagnosis hits particularly close to home here in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis as we have been journeying with Auxiliary Bishop Kevin Kenney since his own lung cancer diagnosis this past July.
I ask all people of good will to join me in praying for Pope Leo and Bishop Kenney, along with all who are living with difficult diagnoses, their loved ones, and their care teams. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes. may our loving God grant them healing and comfort.
