As large companies and railroads drew workers to St. Paul, the Polish
community grew. In 1888, they formed a society named in honor of
Polandโs patron saint, St. Casimir Prince. St. Casimir was established in 1892.
The first building housed both a school on the ground floor and a church on
the upper floor. The present church was blessed by Archbishop Ireland on
November 27, 1904. The Felician Sisters taught in St. Casimir School from
1908 until 1987. The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) have
served in the parish for over a century, beginning in 1916.
While treasuring its Polish heritage, the parish now includes people of
many cultures, including a sizable Karen community.
