St. Stephen-Holy Rosary is a merged urban mission parish with two campuses,
serving a predominantly Latino immigrant community. Both St. Stephen and
Holy Rosary shared a long history of active, vibrant ministries and
service to the poor prior to merging in 2022.
St. Stephen was established in 1885, the 9th Catholic parish in
Minneapolis. The current handsome brown sandstone church was
dedicated in 1891. A school followed in 1915, which was staffed by
the Sisters of St. Joseph until 1991.
Holy Rosary was established in 1878 by the Dominican Friars of the Province of
St. Albert the Great. The current church and priory were built in 1888. In 1879
Holy Rosary school was established. The Sinsinawa Dominican sisters served at
the school and later the parish until 2015. In 2020, the Dominican Friars made
the decision to leave the parish, and Holy Rosary merged with St. Stephen in
2022. The schools at both campuses were consolidated into Risen Christ School
in 1993.
