Following a multi-year process of discernment, Chesterton Academy of the Saint Croix Valley in Stillwater has entered into an Agreement to Operate as a Catholic School of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and now may use the title Catholic.

“On behalf of Archbishop Hebda, the Office for the Mission of Catholic Education is pleased to announce that Chesterton Academy of the Saint Croix Valley has completed the requirements to be recognized as an official Catholic school of the Archdiocese,” said Dr. Jason Slattery, director of Catholic education and superintendent of schools. “Please join us in welcoming Chesterton Academy of the Saint Croix Valley to our system of quality Catholic schools. We look forward to supporting the school, and all our Catholic schools, in the vital mission of providing Catholic education in this local Church.”

Chesterton Academy of the Saint Croix Valley was founded in 2020 and, like Chesterton Academy of the Twin Cities in Hopkins, is part of the Chesterton Schools Network. The school serves students in grades 9-12 and is led by Head of School Eileen Douglass.

“I’m so happy that this is becoming a reality so that Chesterton Academy of the Saint Croix Valley can benefit from being an Archdiocesan school,” said Father Bruno Nwachukwu, pastor of Saint Charles Catholic Church in Bayport, who has served as Chesterton Academy’s chaplain. “Kudos to the board members, principal and staff, and the Archdiocese for working with us to make this happen.”

“I am grateful for the presence of Chesterton Academy in Stillwater,” said Father Michael Creagan, pastor of the Churches of Saint Michael and Saint Mary in Stillwater. “The students are receiving an excellent education and formation as joyful witnesses of Jesus Christ.”
