Bernas was first publicly named as accused by the Diocese of Steubenville on 10/31/2018. Suspended from ministry in 1986. Left the priesthood in 1989, moved to Minneapolis, MN to become a therapist. Was an organist at a Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and substitute organist at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. Bernas worked at the Hazelden Treatment Center in Minnesota. In 2009 he became an organist at a Presbyterian Church in Bremerton, WA. Worked at a treatment center outside of Seattle, WA.
