There was nothing that I enjoyed more than Christmas as a child. I can still taste my Mom’s Christmas Eve pierogies and I have vivid memories of serving midnight Mass, just waiting for the strains of “O Holy Night” to waft from the choir loft. There was always something so beautiful, moreover, as we exchanged gifts before the tree and the stable. The love of Christ always seemed to permeate the celebration. What a gift.
During these final days preparing for our Lord’s arrival, I encourage you to keep in your hearts that sense of joyful anticipation. We may no longer listen for sleigh bells, or rush to our stockings Christmas morning, but our joy remains as we await the coming of our savior, Emmanuel: God with us. May the Lord bless you and your loved ones this Christmas and always.
