IMPORTANT UPDATE (Spring 2025):
To celebrate our 175th anniversary, the Archdiocese Archives has embarked on a project to make historical sacramental records accessible directly to researchers online. We are hopeful this project will be complete in 2026. As we transition to this digital service, genealogical research services previously offered by the Archdiocese have been discontinued.
Many of our parish’s historical sacramental records are accessible on microfilm at the libraries of the Minnesota Genealogical Society and the Minnesota Historical Society, as well as at some local county historical societies and public library branches, so research may still be conducted at those locations. Other research tips may be found in our FAQs.
If you paid for a genealogical research request prior to May 1, 2025, or if you are seeking records for an application for dual citizenship, please contact records@archspm.org for further information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to improve access to these important records.
The archives of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis maintains copies of baptism, marriage, and death records for most parishes in the counties of Ramsey, Hennepin, Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Rice, Scott, Washington, and Wright. We do not, as a rule, have copies of first communion, confirmation, or burial records.
Sacramental records are not public records. However, the Archdiocese recognizes the value of sacramental records to family historians and members of the faithful, and we therefore make historical records 100 years old or older available for research.
The Archdiocese cannot accommodate on-site researchers. No access to sacramental information for genealogical research is provided by parishes. For more information and research tips, please refer to the FAQs.
