Our Lady of Grace parish began on February 17, 1946, when Fr. Louis W. Forrey offered the first Mass for the parish on the stage at the Edina Theater at 50th and France. The new parish was comprised of 165 families, coming mostly from nearby parishes. The community continued to celebrate Mass in the theater for three years while the first part of the building complex was constructed on a 20-acre parcel of land. On May 29, 1949, Mass was first celebrated in the new building, which served as a chapel, school, rectory, and convent. Our Lady of Grace continued to grow until Sunday Masses overflowed and the school was overcrowded. A new church, school addition, and convent were built in 1957. Growth continued, and in 1984, work began on the current worship space. On June 22, 1986, the first Mass consecrated the new church and on September 18, 1988, the parish inaugurated an Austin pipe organ, one of the finest instruments of its kind in the world. Our Lady of Grace completed a new Middle School and library addition in
1999. Most Holy Trinity merged with Our Lady of Grace in 2012, for which the Adoration Chapel is named. The parish completed another significant addition, including a new rectory, gym/stage, and classrooms in 2022. During this time the parish, by God’s grace, expanded its ministry outreach to include young professionals, marriage and family, and live-streamed Masses. Today, Our Lady of Grace has over 3,000 registered families.
