Our Lady of the Lake is located on the shore of Lake Langdon in Mound.
In May 1909, Archbishop John Ireland, out on a horse and buggy ride with
Fr. Francis Jager of St. Boniface in St. Bonifacius, spotted an old wooden school
along what is now County Rd. 110. The Archbishop exclaimed, “This is the place
for a church,” and handed Fr. Jager $100 to apply to the purchase price.
A little more than a month later the building was purchased on contract for $2,000
and on Sunday, June 13, 1909, Fr. Jager offered the first Mass in what was to become
the parish of Our Lady of the Lake. Fourteen adults and children, along with the
choir from St. Boniface, celebrated this first Mass. Today, Our Lady of the Lake
is a parish of nearly 1,200 families, a flourishing school and an ever-busy activity
center.
