The parish dates back to 1858, when the first log church
was constructed. The first brick church was erected in
1875, and the present church was completed in 1900 under the
Franciscan Fathers, who administered the parish at that time.
The school opened in 1908 and expanded in 1955. It continues to thrive today.
The community treasures the Romanesque style church. Many of the artistic elements in
the church recall the Franciscans who led the parish in the early days. There are statues of
Franciscan saints: St. Francis of Assisi and St. Anthony of Padua, as well as St. Louis, patron of
Third Order Franciscans, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, patron of women who are Tertiaries.
The narthex was added in 1994 and the education center was completed in 2002.
