Situated amidst the bluffs of Red Wing, St. Joseph originated in 1858 when Fr. Felix Tissot was the first priest assigned to the area. Father Felix said Mass in parishioner homes until the fall of 1862, when a  modest, wood-framed church, seating approximately 100 people, was built. It was dedicated in honor of St. Joseph. A short while later, the first school was built in 1873, with a total of three different school buildings until the school officially closed in 2011. The original church was replaced in 1877 and remained open until 1965. The present-day church, which was built in 1963, had its first Mass in 1965. The Holy Family Hall gathering space was built in 2000 and continues to be a place for parishioners and community members to connect with one another, serve those in need and build community within the parish and surrounding Red Wing area. St. Joseph lives out its mission of forming disciples to know, love and serve God, while constantly striving to grow closer to Christ.
