St. Leonard of Port Maurice was established to serve the African American Catholics of Minneapolis on January 10, 1940. Fr. Leonard Hirman was the first pastor and built the present church, which wasย dedicated by Archbishop Murray on June 15, 1941. The parish was also served by the Oblate Sisters of the Providence of Baltimore. St. Leonard is a small parish and has always depended upon the active involvement of parishioners. It is a community of prayer, worship, support and friendship.
