The first church in the area was built in 1857 and was served by priests from Shakopee, New Prague, and Marystown until the present church was built in 1873 and dedicated on October 11, 1874. In the beginning, the parish served mostly Irish Catholic families, but by the 1930s, it was welcoming a growing number of German and Czech families.
Today, the historic St. Patrick welcomes old time farm families and suburban newcomers from the Twin Cities.

Under the Strategic Plan, St. Catherine, Jordan (Prior Lake) was designated as oratory of St. Patrick.
