On May 4, 1900, the Zumbrota News reported: “after nearly half a century of existence,
Zumbrota is to have a Catholic church. Two lots have been secured on South Main Street,
near L.T. Ward’s for the proposed edifice. Although no plans have been settled upon, the church
will doubtless be erected this summer.” The cornerstone for the church was laid at the site of
Main and Eighth Streets later that year, making it the seventh Catholic church in Goodhue
County. A pastor would not arrive to serve the parish until 1939, though.
The current church was dedicated in 1970, being built in a modern style. Today, St. Paul is
clustered with St. Michael in Pine Island.
