Murphy was accused of abusing boys in the Nashville Diocese, in places that would later become parts of the Dioceses of Memphis and Knoxville. He was also alleged to have abused minors during trips to Davenport, Iowa. From 1994 – 1996 Murphy lived and worked at the Christian Brothers Dunrovin Retreat Center in Marine-on-St. Croix, MN. From 1996 – 2000 Murphy lived in retirement at the Mainstreet Lodge in Minneapolis, MN. On 11/2/2018 Murphy’s name was added to the Diocese of Nashville list of accused clergy and disclosed by the Diocese of Knoxville on 3/6/2020. https://dioknox.org/
