The people of St. Peter have lived, worked and worshiped in North St. Paul for over 130 years. The founding members of the parish formed the North St. Paul Catholic Organization, and formally requested Archbishop Ireland to send a priest. The first Mass was offered by Fr. Kaeberle, pastor of Sacred Heart in St. Paul, in an unused
storeroom in the Enterprise Building. St. Peter was incorporated on January 8, 1889 and purchased a building previously used by the Congregational Church. The cornerstone for the historic church was laid in September 1915. O’Reilly Hall was built in 1971, and the fellowship hall and adoration chapel were added in the 1990s. Construction of the current church began in 2007, and was dedicated in September of 2008. The following year, St. Peter merged with Holy Redeemer. The historic church still stands and is in regular use as a daily Mass chapel, confessional, and gathering space. In 2017 the parish was entrusted to the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo, a missionary order from Italy.
