Those taking advantage of the dispensation, however, are exhorted to undertake a work of charity, an exercise of piety, or an act of comparable penance on some other occasion during the Third Week of Lent.

The exhortation of our patron, St. Paul, to the early Christians in Thessalonica captures well what is in my heart: “We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, knowing, brothers loved by God, how you were chosen” (1 Thes 1:2-4).1 I feel blessed to shepherd an Archdiocese in which the work of the Holy Spirit is so evident.

Archdiocese to take up collection for hurricane relief

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is joining a nationwide effort by U.S. bishops to provide relief to those suffering from the effects of Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Fiona. Archbishop Bernard Hebda is asking all parishes in the archdiocese to take up an emergency collection on or near the weekend of Oct. 8 and 9.
