Archdiocesan Commission of Black Catholic Ministry

This Commission of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, first established by Archbishop John R. Roach and re-established by Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda is composed of representatives of African American and African Diaspora communities and persons located in the Archdiocese. The purpose of this commission is : 

• advise the Archbishop on spiritual and temporal matters relating to pastoral and apostolic work affecting Black Catholics
• provide coordinated leadership among parishes and apostolates of the Church so that Black Catholics may realize and use their God-given gifts for the benefit of the Church.
• support the Church’s teaching on living out the goals of social justice and evangelization, especially among young Black Catholics.
• promote the cause of canonization for Black Catholics in America, especially the “Holy 6;”
• connect Black Catholics in the Archdiocese with others through the National Office of Black Catholics, the USCCB, and other national Catholic leadership groups.
• prepare and implement a follow-on regional Pastoral Plan of Action for the Archdiocese reflecting the goals of Congress XIII (2023) of the National Black Catholic Congress.
• coordinate with other Commissions, Offices, and efforts in the Archdiocese to promote evangelization, vocational discernment, and catechetical efforts so as to build up the Body of Christ, the Church.
