Statement Regarding Announcement by the Little Sisters of the Poor ย

From Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda: I was deeply saddened to learn that the Little Sisters of the Poor will be leaving the Holy Family Residence and our Archdiocese. They have been an important part of this local Church for more than 140 years and their Christ-like witness and example will be greatly missed.

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: We are a Matthew 25 people

Iโ€™m not a betting man, but I would be willing to bet that if we would ask most Catholics to complete the biblical phrase, โ€œWhatsoever you did for the least of my brothers...โ€ they would respond โ€œyou did it to me.โ€ Itโ€™s right from the 40th verse of Matthew 25.

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: God speaks to his people in Sacred Scripture

Catholics sometimes are criticized for not knowing Sacred Scripture. While that may have been true at some times and in some places, my familiarity with the faithful of this archdiocese tells me that the stereotype does not hold true here, especially since the Second Vatican Council and its groundbreaking document on the Word of God (Dei Verbum) and its emphasis on the use of Sacred Scripture in the revised liturgy.

Archbishopโ€™s Weekly Word: Calling unlikely saints

In my 18 years in Rome, I would often go to the Church of Saint Louis, the French national Church, to admire the Caravaggio paintings, and to pray in the proximity of the three paintings depicting the life of Saint Matthew, especially when I was a seminarian and still discerning my vocation. (Lawyers, after all, were often just a small step up the ladder from tax collectors in the Bible.)

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: Pray like a pirate

Now todayโ€™s subject line may have prompted you to think that I am talking about my hometown team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, in this weekโ€™s Weekly Wordโ€”but Iโ€™m not (although they could certainly use your prayers).

Appointment โ€“ September 12, 2024

Archbishop Bernard Hebda has announced the following appointment in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: Beards: Balmed or banned?

While our brothers and sisters in St. Cloud were celebrating the feast of their patron, Saint Cloud, this past Saturday, the secular world was celebrating either International Bacon Day or World Beard Day. I donโ€™t know who comes up with those calendars.

Eucharist Inspires Hope and Action on this World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Catholics are called to hope and action to protect creation, instilled in us by Jesus in the Eucharist, Archbishop Borys Gudziak and Bishop A. Elias Zaidan wrote in a statement for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.ย

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: Parents: Keep praying

I was privileged this weekend to bless the new school building at Divine Mercy in Faribault. It is an amazing education facility, but an even more extraordinary testimony to the desire of parents to pass on the faith to their children.

Archbishop’s Weekly Word: Welcoming Jesus in our homes: Sibling saints and witnesses
