St. Dominic traces its origins to the year 1858, when the first Mass in the area was offered in a private home. The first church was built and dedicated on August 4, 1869, the feast of St. Dominic. A brick Romanesque church was completed in 1914, and a parish school in 1927. The school for decades was under the able leadership of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The present church building was completed in 1986. An attractive, modern structure, the church seats 950 and also has a spacious social hall, narthex, kitchen, and more. The parish mission statement describes St. Dominic well: Christians committed to serving the community and living the mission of Jesus Christ.
