With deep gratitude, we announce that Tom Mertens, chief financial officer, has shared his readiness to retire on June 30, 2027. Tom has served as our CFO since Dec. 3, 2012. His retirement will conclude 14 exceptional years of service to this archdiocese.

Throughout his tenure, Tom has provided steady, principled leadership in advancing financial accountability and implementing sound practices across the archdiocese, its parishes and its schools. His commitment, expertise and collaborative spirit have strengthened our mission and supported those we serve. Tom has also generously shared his leadership as a board member of Emmaus Partners, Catholic Community Foundation and The Catholic Cemeteries. The impact of Tom’s work on our archdiocese has been felt in many ways and is so significant.

We will post the chief financial officer role and conduct a thoughtful search for Tom’s successor. Tom’s advance notice gives us the opportunity to plan carefully, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated transition of leadership.

We are profoundly thankful to Tom for his service, wise counsel and unwavering dedication to the archdiocese and its mission. Please join us in congratulating Tom as he prepares for retirement and looks forward to a slower life pace, spending more time with his wife, Paula, family and friends, traveling and volunteering. We wish Tom every blessing in this well-earned next chapter.
