At yesterday’s celebration at the Cathedral marking the end of our 175th Jubilee Year, I was privileged to lead the congregation in a prayer consecrating our Archdiocese to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

2026 is a big election year in Minnesota. Faithful citizens must form their conscience with the right principles of Catholic social teaching to participate rightly in the public arena. But they also must inform themselves about the issues and where the candidates stand.

Not infrequently, folks ask if things slow down in the archdiocese in summer. Lent, Easter, and a steady stream of first Communions, confirmations, and graduations can be exhausting for our pastors. And yet I experienced such joy among them when we got together last week for our summer gathering at St. Joseph in Rosemount. I’m always grateful for priestly fraternity.

Happy Feast of Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom! I’m writing today from Orlando, where the bishops of our country are gathering for their spring meeting. I’m excited that we will be coming together this Thursday afternoon to consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as we prepare for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The consecration will take place in conjunction with a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of the Universe. What a great title for the Blessed Mother!

Effective July 1, parishioners of St. Boniface in Minneapolis will continue to attend Mass and receive sacraments at the church, even as parish assets are transferred to another owner.

Following one year’s worth of work and consultation, Archbishop Bernard Hebda signed a decree May 26 creating a new set of 15 deaneries—geographical groupings of parishes within the archdiocese—effective July 1, 2026.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will gather for the 2026 Spring Plenary Assembly in Orlando, Florida, June 10-12. The public sessions on June 10 and 11 will be livestreamed on the USCCB website.
