602 – Policy for the Establishment of New Catholic Schools

I. Purpose

This policy states the requirement for a school seeking to be recognized as a Catholic School in the Archdiocese.

II. Definitions

“Archbishop” means means the sitting Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis ( or the appointed Apostolic Administrator).

“Archdiocese” means that certain corporate entity formed, maintained and existing under Minnesota Section 315 .16 with the Minnesota Business Name: “The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis”.

“School” means a primary school or a secondary school within the Archdiocese Territory that is Archdiocese-recognized as Catholic.

III. Policy

The Archbishop is the competent ecclesiastical authority to designate a school as Catholic in the Archdiocese. All schools seeking to be recognized as a Catholic School in the Archdiocese are required to follow the Process for the Establishment of New Catholic Schools as outlined by the Office for the Mission of Catholic Education.
